On Saturday January 14, 2012 over 95 volunteers gathered at Eagle Heights Park on Nopal Street in the Las Brisas area and assisted in cleaning up gang related taggings and trash inside the park. Students came from both EP and Winn High Schools as well as EP and Memorial Junior High campuses. Students also hailed from Henry B. Gonzalez, Armando Cerna, Nellie Mae Glass, Ray Darr, and Robert E. Lee Elementary schools. Adult volunteers came from Seco Mines Community Center, Precinct One, Precinct Two and also softball coaches along with their players also participated.
U.S. Border Patrol agents indicated that illicit activity does take place inside the park because of the trash the volunteers picked up. Residents living close to these parks are asked to call law enforcement if they see suspicious activity. The parks belong to all residents and are a way to exercise in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
