United States Attorney Robert Pitman announced that 30-year-old Ramon Garza, a former Crystal City Correctional Center (CCCC) officer, faces federal prison time after a jury convicted him on drug and sexual abuse of a prisoner charges.
On Thursday, jurors found Garza guilty of two counts of sexual abuse of an inmate and one count of providing contraband to an inmate. Testimony during the two-day trial revealed that in the Spring of 2010, Garza engaged in sexual relations with two female inmates under his custodial authority. Testimony also revealed that in April 2010, Garza provided Vicodin, a controlled substance, to at least three CCCC inmates.
Garza, who remains in federal custody, faces up to 15 years in federal prison for each sexual abuse charge and up to five years in federal prison for the drug charge. He is scheduled to be sentenced at 2:00pm on June 4, 2012, before United States District Judge Alia Moses in Del Rio.
This investigation was conducted by the United States Marshals Service. It is being prosecuted
