On Friday, February 3rd, horsemen from Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras were halfway over the International Bridge en route to initiating "Cabalgata La Grande" an excursion on horseback which will culminate on February 10th at the San Antonio Stockshow and Rodeo. Dignitaries present at the event included Mexican Consulate Ricardo Santana, and Rudy Heredia, Commissioner of Pct. 2.
Deputies of the Maverick County Sheriff's Department will escort the cavalcade through the city limits.
Approximately 20 riders from Piedras Negras united with almost 30 riders from Eagle Pass, but more riders are expected to join the cavalcade mid-journey. Despite reports of cold temperatures and the possibility of rain has not dissuaded the riders as they welcome the chance to rough it in the South Texas prairie and be one with nature.
This is the thirteenth year that the cavalcade has made the excursion and it has become quite a tradition. This year the queen of the cavalcade is Luz Elena Garcia, a student
Eagle Pass High School who will make the journey alongside her parents. She stated that she is very excited about the trip and that this will be the fourth time she has participated. There are families who enjoy the ranch life and they also travel together. Paramedics will travel with the group in case anyone needs medical attention and pickups will accompany the group in case of emergency.
The first stop of the trip will be a ranch in Maverick County on Hwy 57, on Saturday they will travel to La Pryor, it's on to Batesville on Sunday and on Monday they will ride for four hours a day until
