Former EPISD Chief of Police, Johnny Ruiz, pleaded no contest to allegations stemming from a 2011 arrest at Wal-Mart. Ruiz was was present Friday evening in front of Municipal Court Judge Fransisco Martinez, prosecutor Heriberto Morales and his own legal representation.
Ruiz received a suspended sentence after pleading no contest to criminal mischief. He received a 150 day deferred disposition, 20 hours of community service and must adhere to Wal-Mart’s policy, which in this case means he will be banned for life from shopping at that establishment, this according to one source involved in the case. Ruiz’s case will now likely be presented in front on the EPISD school board. Ruiz was the subject of intense scrutiny after he was detained at the local Wal-Mart late last year for allegedly stealing merchandise under $50.00 and was featured in several San Antonio based news mediums.
