Today, Maverick County Sheriff Tomas S. Herrera met with U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar of the 28th
Congressional District along with Hon. Paul N. Stockton, Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Defense in Laredo, Texas.
The main topic was an Overview of the Department of Defense Domestic Preparedness Support Initiative Programs. This meeting was specifically for first responders only. These programs are directly for Federal, State, and Local Law Enforcement Agencies to acquire equipment that was previously used in either Iraq or Afghanistan by one of the Armed Forces Services.
The process on how to acquire such equipment, where to apply, phone numbers and contact information was part of the meeting as well. This equipment and or specialty vehicles would be at no cost directly to the Law
Enforcement Agencies. The only cost to the individual agencies would be to either incur shipping costs or have
the item(s) picked up at one of the Armed Services Depot's throughout the United States by the Law
Enforcement Agency in question .
Sheriff Tomas feels that communication like this on a one to one level with our U.S. Congressman and our Federal representatives from Washington D.C. goes a long way, especially our local jurisdictions, in acquiring state of the art equipment and or specialty vehicles to use on securing our border.
