Eagle Pass Indepen-dent School District Super-intendent, Jesus Sanchez, requested Johnny Ruiz to submit his letter of resignation as EPISD Chief of Police and gave him 10 days to bring forward such waiver, this during a meeting that took place on Friday afternoon.
This opportunity for Ruiz to resign office, is all a result of the incident that occurred on December 12, 2011 where Ruiz was arrested on charges of robbery of a small amount at Wal-Mart.
Since the incident the Eagle Pass Independent School District placed Johnny Ruiz on suspension with pay and in February he has stopped receiving pay from the district. On the 9th of February Johnny Ruiz, with the representation of his lawyer, reached an agreement with the Municipal Court after a plea of no contest to the charges. The decision would keep his record in good standings, and would have to perform 20 hours of community service, have 150 days of suspended time and pay a fine of $500 to the Court.
Johnny Ruiz has been the head of the EPISD Police Dept. since it was founded, currently Eduardo Esquivel remains as Interim Chief of the department.
