Hundreds gathered at Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Pass to attend funeral services for Linette Cerezo, the CC Winn HS sophomore killed in a tragic auto accident on Saturday.
Students friends and family converged on the south side church to pay their final respects to the family of the 16 year-old.
Padre Pablo of Sacred Heart Church opened his sermon by saying that this was a truly sad day and that the death of someone so young affects the entire community.
He went on to add that it's days like these where we need the strength of our faith as Christians and Catholics.
"The bonds that we make in life are not broken by death," Father Pablo said, "All of her friends and family have beautiful memories of her. This death cannot destroy those ties."
The truth in his words were very evident as the standing-room only crowd at the church paled in comparison to the hundreds of people at the Catholic Cemetery after the ceremony.
His reading from 2 Jeremiah was chosen as he thought of Linette's mother Oralia, her two brothers and her grandparents as it talks of a very sad time in biblical times that was so sad, that the author himself sounds as if he is crying uncontrollably as he re-counts the story of Rachel who cries for her deceased daughter in a way that is very close to the sadness that all felt on this day.
